Our Program

One of the main programs of our community is the survey of the waterways. Our experts guide the volunteers about the right ways to survey the rivers, lakes, beaches, etc. in Gold Coast. It helps the volunteers to understand the basic concept of Waterwatch, and they learn how to choose the right site or location to keep an eye on the condition of the waterways.

In this program, our experts help the volunteers to know the right ways to monitor the quality of the water. There are some parameters that decide whether a water body is healthy or not. Some test can be conducted directly on- site, while for other tests, sample collection is essential. It helps to improve the overall condition of the waterways.

One of the major reasons for the poor condition of the waterways is the litter spread by humans. From Plastic bags and food packaging to uncapped glass bottles, and Drink cans, several things go into the water that deteriorates the condition of the waterways. Our litter management program helps to minimise the amount of litter and its negative impact on the ecosystem.

We also provide environmental education to school and the community in order to spread awareness as much as possible. To keep the waterways healthy, it is essential that everyone understand their significance, the problems and their solution. We provide some valuable information in this program. We are associated with all the reputed schools and colleges in Gold Coast.

We not only monitor the water quality and identify the problems but also try our level best to resolve the issue at the earliest. We work along with other communities and, when required, take help from the government. In this program, we gather information about the best ways to solve the waterways problem. Restoration of waterbodies is an important part of Waterwatch.

When the volunteers are monitoring the water quality on-site, collecting samples or performing the test, they need to follow some safety measures. Our seasoned experts provide ample information about field safety, chemicals safety, field considerations, sample collection, preservation and storage. By following these safety measures, everyone can perform the Waterwatch safety and produce accurate results. It is essential for all the volunteers.

In our community, we also pay attention to the survey of the water bugs. They are small creatures that are visible with naked eyes. Their presence in abundance and extensive diversity is a sign that the waterway is healthy. That is why we also provide valuable information on this subject, so the volunteers can identify different types and their importance.

We also focus on data management because, without detailed and accurate data, it won’t be possible to make comparisons. As a result, it would be difficult to check if the condition of the waterways has improved or worsen. So, we help the volunteers to note down the details properly, maintain a sheet and keep the data in an organised manner.
